Clark Landed in Miami, But Can Miami Land Clark?

Bob WheelerMar 7, 2010

Late Sunday afternoon unrestricted free agent Ryan Clark landed in Miami for a visit with the Dolphins.  Miami certainly has needs at safety after a less than impressive performance last year from Gabril Wilson, whom they cut on Friday.  Wilson's large contract and poor performance led to his demise.  Parcells and Ireland were quick to realize he was not the answer.

Clark's last two seasons in Pittsburgh have been quite productive, compiling 176 total tackles and 4 interceptions.  Last seasons stats become even more impressive as all world safety Troy Polamalu was injured, and played only 5 games.

At 5'11" 205, the former LSU standout could be an excellent fit into the revamped Miami defense.  The question is can Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland convince Clark to become a Dolphin.  With the collective bargaining agreement not being resolved we march into an uncapped season.  With the changes that came with no collective bargaining agreement Miami was actually able to trim some salary while retaining players through a loophole in the arrangement.

With an uncapped season and savings already by the Dolphins there seems to be no reason to think that Miami can't make this deal happen.  Miami had serious interest in free agent Antrel Rolle, but were not going to compete with the Giants offer of a 5 year 37 million dollar deal.

If Parcells and Ireland can get this deal done, I think that will be the last big move for Miami prior to draft day.  With Miami sitting in the 12th spot look for them to draft either the game changing WR Dez Bryant or the tackling machine Rolando McClain.

As much as Miami needs a play maker in the WR position, my money is still on McClain.  Parcells loves his linebackers, and has always viewed WR's as interchangeable.  In all of his drafts he has only taken one WR in the first round Terry Glenn.

The NFL officially entered the 2010 season on Friday and what true football fan can't wait for the action to hit the gridiron?
