Marouane Chamakh Drops Biggest Hint Yet of Arsenal Move

Snide CommentsMar 6, 2010

Many people who were on the planet during the "silly season" that is the summer transfer window know that Arsene Wenger practically stalked Chamakh but with him being one of French club Bordeaux's main assets, Arsene Wenger, as usual, didn't pay enough.

All he offered was a reported €8m, which was turned down more times than it was even considered. Deep down, Wenger knew he needed a striker but hoped Robin Van Persie will have a complete season. We know better, and I think Wenger does know better, also, the stiker was injured in a friendly game for five months.

Anything friendly about that?

With Nicklas Bendtner, Eduardo, and Carlos Vela all being utilised sporadically due to different coaching reasons (Bendtner can be an exception since he found his scoring boots, also hat) Wenger needs a "proven" striker. He likes them French, he likes them young, he likes them fast, he likes them tall.

Chamakh is all the above, the only thing about him you wouldn't like is his scoring record.

Last season he scored 13 goals in 25 starts, three appearances as a sub.

This season he has scored 8 goals in 21 starts, three appearances as a sub.

The fact the Nicklas Bendtner almost has the same amount of goals in fewer starts raises eye-brows for when its clutch time and Arsenal need those goals. But it will be unfair to rule out his scoring potential since we know we have Wenger at the helm and he is a fantastic coach.

Last night, Chamakh reportedly said he will face a stern test adapting to the premier league, as it is everyone's dream.

I have always wanted to play in the Premier League and any striker wants to meet that challenge and play in the league.

Chamakh spoke to Mirror Sport :

"I am prepared for a move even though I am completely focused on helping my current club. That is more important than my personal situation."

"It is not easy in England but the challenge in my career has always been to learn every day, keep improving and always help my club to success."

Chamakh who will be a free agent in the summer, has agreed a five-year £50,000-a-week contract with Arsenal and will move to the Emirates this summer and is looking to the future.

Can he be Wenger's next big transfer?

Only time will tell
