They did not waste any time and signed three free agents in the first day to include the best defensive player on the market in Julius Peppers. Terms of Peppers’ deal were not released. Several outlets reported it was worth $72 million, with about $40 million coming in the first three years. The NFL Network, citing a source, reported the deal was for $79.8 million, with $40 million guaranteed in the first three seasons. The Bears were not done yet. Besides Peppers, the Bears lured running back Chester Taylor from NFC North champion Minnesota with a four-year contract and blocking tight end Brandon Manumaleuna from San Diego with a five-year deal. Taylor’s contract is worth $12.5 million with $7 million guaranteed, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiation. The person spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced. The Bears have little action in the draft since they traded for Jay Cutler, but this move makes Bears fans excited for the upcoming season!

The Ravens have always had a question mark at wide receiver but they answered that problem on Friday when they landed Arizona Cardinals star wide receiver Anquan Boldin via a trade, according to league sources. Boldin was acquired by the Ravens as they sent their third-round pick and fourth-round pick in this year’s draft to the Cardinals in exchange for Boldin and their fifth-round draft pick. This fills a big void for the Ravens and will give the Cardinals some draft picks to build for the future.

The Browns only agreed to terms with one player but it was one of the best. Josh Cribbs and new Browns president Mike Holmgren announced the deal, which includes $7.5 million in guaranteed money; minutes before Cleveland’s most popular player was scheduled to make an appearance at an auto show in front of hundreds of Browns fans. This is a huge win for the Browns as they needed to keep their best player and build toward the future.

Believe it or not even the Lions had a good start to the Free Agency rush. The Lions, one of the worst teams in the NFL, added another new face to the defensive line, agreeing to a four-year deal with defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch after coach Jim Schwartz waited outside Vanden Bosch’s Nashville, Tenn., home when free agency began at midnight. That deal reportedly is $26 million with $10 million due in the first year for the 31-year-old defensive end. They also traded for veteran Corey Williams giving up a pair of late draft picks. Finally the team also agreed to terms with Seattle wide receiver Nate Burleson. This is a good job for a team that was desperate for some positive news.

One thing I truly believe is that the Bears and the Ravens are the real winners and they both just became contenders for the Super Bowl!If you agree you may want to bet these teams to win the Superbowl now while the odds are still high!

Latest Super bowl Odds:

This is just the start of the free agency period, and there are plenty of more moves yet to be announced. (The Latest has Denver WR Brandon Marshall going to the Seahawks.) If one thing is for sure it is the fact that this will be one exciting off season!
