WEC 47: LC Davis Ready To Take Another Step Towards The Title
A fighter’s path to greatness is a long and difficult road; a road that is paved through hard work and determination.
Featherweight contender LC Davis will be looking to become 3-0 in the WEC when he takes on talented Lithuanian grappler Deividas Taurosevicius this Saturday, March 6th at WEC 47 in Columbus, Ohio.
At 15-2 in his professional career, Davis knows that with every win he inches closer to the title.
“I think the winner of this fight is definitely going to be in the mix for the title,” Davis exclusively told Bleacher Report. “So it’s very important for me to get one step closer to my goal and my dream of being a world champion.”
With lofty goals and so much on the line now, Davis has really ramped up his training efforts by spending time working with some different camps and working with some of the best trainers in the business.
“I’ve had an awesome training camp! I did most of my training in Kansas City. Then I spent a little time in Des Moines with Josh Neer and I finished up my training camp here in Las Vegas at Xtreme Couture.
“It kind of freaked me out watching the countdown to UFC 109 when Randy Couture fought Mark Coleman. I was watching it with my Dad and I was like; Dude, I’m going to have the same trainers as Randy Couture, the same boxing coach, the same strength and conditioning coach that Randy used to get ready for all of his fights. So if it’s good enough for “The Natural” it’s good enough for old LC.”
Working with such an accomplished group of trainers and training partners has been a huge boost for Davis’ self esteem as he approaches the biggest fight of his career; a fight that can open the door to the upper echelon of WEC featherweights.
“I think believing in yourself is the biggest key to winning. Belief alone won’t get you the victory but it’s definitely the biggest step towards that.
“I believe in my trainers, I believe in the training that I have been doing and I believe in myself. So, I’m excited for this opportunity and I look forward to going out there and doing my best and putting on a show for the crowd.”
But, there’s more to the fight game than just surrounding yourself with the right people, you have to know what to expect from your opponent and understand what you need to do to be victorious.
Against Taurosevicius, Davis not only has to worry about the skills he possesses but the impressive condition he always comes in as well.
“He’s really well rounded so I didn’t focus on one area more than any other. I just tried to focus on the overall game but one thing I did kind of focus on was that I really worked on my strength and conditioning. He seems really strong and he pushes the pace so I wanted to be the strongest I have ever been for this fight. I think I’ve been able to accomplish that with all the hard work that I have put in.
“My main concern is just being in the best shape that I can be in so that I can dictate the pace and outwork him and make the fight go my way.”
In peak shape and highly motivated, Davis is ready to launch his name into the elite ranks of the WEC and one day finally realize his dream of becoming a world champion.
