NFL Changes: Is Overtime Going To Be Different?
New reports are coming in that the NFL is talking about changing the overtime rules. Players and the Competition Committee met to discuss what exactly would be done to improve the NFL.
So here is how it would work. It would still be a sudden death, but only if the first team to get possession scored a touchdown. If the first team scored a field goal like lets say the NFC championship game last year, then the other team, or the Vikings would get the ball. If they scored a touchdown then the game would be over, but if they only scored a field goal as well then the game would continue and going to a normal sudden death. If the second team did not score then the game is over and the first team (the Saints) would win.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
If the first team did not score on their possession and the second did then the game would be over.
They did not explain what would happen if neither team scored on the first possession, but I would assume it goes to a normal sudden death.
There is only one catch, and that is that this would be for the playoffs only.
I personally like that set up. it is a little confusing at first, and may have to be explained to Donovan McNabb a couple of times, but all in all I think it makes overtime more competitive, more exciting, and fair.
Coaches would have to make the decision of kicking a field goal and hoping the defense can hold the other team off, or go for it on 4th and 2 so they can try to win the game right there and then.
There were two playoff games that went to over time last year. The Green Bay and Arizona game would not have been effected since Arizona scored a touchdown, but the NFC title game between the Vikings and Champion Saints would have continued. I believe the Saints still would have won, but it would have been interesting.
Imagine what this could do for the playoffs. Right now we have Payton Manning, Tom Brady, and Brett Farve (he will be back) in the league right now that are all HOF bound. They all can lead their team down for a score if they need to, or in the case of Manning and Farve make a very exciting and costly turnover to end it. This system could make for some of the most memorable playoff games in history, and I think the fans should rally around it to get it passed!
