Baltimore Ravens Coach John Harbaugh: "We're Interested In Terrell Owens"

Daniel WolfFeb 27, 2010

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has made an official announcement that the team is interested in acquiring wide receiver Terrell Owens.

Even though this announcement may be in violation of the NFL's tampering policies , Harbaugh decided to let the media know what one of their intentions are in this offseason.

It is well known that the Ravens have needed a true No. 1 recevier for quarterback Joe Falcco the past two season and this statement is no disrespect to current receiver Derrick Mason, but he has been past his prime for several seasons now.

Owens will be an unrestricted free agent March 5 because the Buffalo Bills only signed the receiver to a one-year deal this past year, and after Owens brought drama with him into the Bills' locker room, they will not re-sign him.

If there is one thing that the Ravens need to prepare themselves for, it's the amount of baggage that Owens will bring with him to the team.

Locker room leader, linebacker Ray Lewis may have control of the team, but it will be his greatest challenge to be able to keep Owens under control.

Whether the Ravens will just give Owens a one-year deal or longer remains to be seen, but if there is a team that might be able to control Owens it is the Ravens.

They recently signed formerly suspended receiver Donte' Stallworth to a one-year deal, and now it looks like Owens may be the next addition.

Ravens fans should be curious as to why the Ravens would rather fill a large void at receiver via free agency, since they might be able to land a talented rookie like Notre Dame's Golden Tate in the first round of April's NFL Draft.

Owens would bring a high level of entertainment for fans on game day, but is the baggage really worth it?
