Jazz Beat LeBron and Cavs in Thriller
With six seconds left to play in the game, Lebron James hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 101.
But six seconds was just enough time for Deron Williams to take the ball the length of the court and score a layup with 1.3 seconds left. A half-court heave by Cleavland was way off as the Utah Jazz defeated the Cleavland Cavaliers 103-101 Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.
Utah was led by Paul Milsap with a career-high 24 points and was followed by Carlos Boozer with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Williams ended up with 15 points and 12 assists for the Jazz and most of his assists going to Boozer and Milsap.
James finished the game with the 11th triple-double of his career at 32 points, 15 rebounds, and 13 assists.
Cleavland's largest deficit in the game was nine points, but they never let Utah get out of reach. With Cleavland down by 5 in the final minute, James took the ball to the hoop, scoring the basket and giving Milsap his sixth and final foul of the game. James missed the free-throw and the rebound bounced to Zydrunas Ilgauskas who threw the ball out to James and the Cavaliers called a time-out with 17 seconds left.
After the time-out James took the ball to the hoop and scored to cut the lead to 99-98. Ronnie Brewer received the inbounds pass for the Jazz and was fouled and sent to the free-throw line. Brewer hit both free-throws, making it a three point game for the Jazz. Brewer's free-throws ended up key as James went down to the other end of the court and hit the tying 3-pointer.
The win improves Utah to 3-2 on the season, as the loss drops Cleavland to 2-3 on the season. Cleavland will be in action again Friday as they travel to the 1-3 Sacramento Kings, and the Jazz will also be on the road Friday as they travel to the winless Seattle Supersonics.
