Two Reasons Why Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels Part Two Is a Bad Idea

Josh McCainFeb 23, 2010

Good afternoon loyal reader, thought I'd grace you with my two-cents on the upcoming Michaels vs. Undertaker rematch at Wrestlemania.

From the moment this match was hinted at, I felt it was a bad idea.

Many of you have hit on one of the main reasons against this match.

There is little chance it can live up to the first match from last year.  It is possible, but these two stars are another year older and very close to retirement.

Because there have been a couple of articles on that fact alone I won't bore you with my thoughts on it living up to the hype.

The first reason I think the match is a bad idea is that if Shawn Michaels fails to end the streak, his career is over.

Now, nothing is forever in the WWE universe as far as firings go.  However, Shawn might actually have decided it is time to hang up his boots.  With rumors swirling around that he and the Undertaker are taking time off after Mania, his time off might be indefinite.

Much like his first exit from the WWE (then WWF), as well as Ric Flair's final WWE match, I feel it's wrong that these legends would go out losers.

I feel that when a guy who has given his life to the business retires or leaves, he should go out on top.

Michaels's first exit wasn't voluntary, it was due to injury, and he was the champ.  So naturally he'd have to drop the strap, but much like what was planned at Survivor Series with Bret Hart (I said planned , not what actually happened), HBK could have walked out of Mania the champ and then given the belt to Austin.

Instead we all thought he ended his career with an loss to Stone Cold Steve Austin at the hands of a double cross and fast count delivered by Mike Tyson.

Also given his back injury, it wasn't a valiant loss, and unlike Flair's there was no heart felt goodbye.  It was 1-2-3, get out!

In fact, the only mention of HBK the next night on RAW was Triple H mumbling something about him dropping the ball and that he, Triple H, had picked it up and was going to run with it.

Even though I didn't want to see Flair lose in his last WWE match, much like at this year's Mania, those were the stipulations for the match.

We knew Flair was leaving and months before Vince McMahon had laid down the stipulation that Flair could stay until he lost, then he was done.

And despite a great match with Shawn Michaels, in the end Flair's WWE career ended on a loss at Mania.

So if Michaels does not end the streak, he will suffer the same fate as Flair, though I don't believe his will be permanent.  Some how, some way, they'll find a loop-hole and he'll be back a few months down the road.

However, if Wrestlemania is indeed his final match, I find it just a bit disrespectful to have the so-called "Mr. Wrestlemania" go out on a loss.

Reason number two: Why end the streak?

I'm not the biggest Undertaker fan in the world, but like a security blanket, I like to know he's out there in the WWE universe.

Because of his character we forget that he is in fact a mortal man and will one day become to old to wrestle.

With that said, I see absolutely no reason to end the streak.  Not by Shawn Michaels, and not by any other WWE Superstar or future Superstar.

Much like the security blanket that is the Undertaker it doesn't change my life if it's there or not, but I still like the idea of knowing that it's out there.

As for a prediction, I really don't know.

Both of them are taking time off after Mania so it is feasible that either could lose.

I think the WWE might set it up to be a draw.

Maybe the two of them beat the ever loving crap out of each other and neither can get the pin-fall.

Thus we preserve the streak, HBK's career isn't over, and we have an excuse for them taking time away from the WWE.

If I were in charge I'd do something similar but have a twist.

Have the match be a Casket Match (I miss those) and instead of having referees man the casket to open and close it, you have two hooded men.

At the end of the match you have Taker and Shawn battle inside the casket and Taker choke slams Michaels.

As the Dead Man is getting back to his feet one of the hooded figures slams the lid down on him and then locks it.

The figure takes his hood off and revels himself to be Bret "The Hitman" Hart.

Bret can come on RAW the next night and claim he really never forgave HBK for Montreal, and that the Undertaker had something to do with it (after all those two were feuding as well when Bret left, I'll leave what Taker did up to the writers).

This way, we have the draw so Shawn is still in the WWE, Taker has his streak, and since Superstars go away for awhile when they lose a casket match, we have a reason for their absence.

Please discuss what you think.
