Judge Says Oregon's LaMichael James Is Unable To Attend Class
Due to LaMichael James’ release agreement, he is not allowed within two miles of the University of Oregon Campus.
This means that James is unable to attend classes and will potentially lose his scholarship if he is unable to obtain enough credits.
It is acceptable for student-athletes who are unable to attend class to make arrangements with professors to complete coursework, according to Oregon’s director of compliance. However, if James is unable to make arrangements, it is likely that he will be unable to earn enough credits to remain eligible for the 2010 football season.
Sunday was the last day to drop classes for Oregon’s winter term.
If James falls short of the 36 necessary credits to remain eligible for the 2010 seaon, he would still have the opportunity to play in Oregon’s bowl game.
While I understand that James is not allowed within a two-mile radius of the campus so that he will avoid the other university student who is involved in the alleged assault case.
However, not allowing a student to attend classes is ridiculous. Football aside, James has a right to his education because he is innocent until proven guilty.
College is by no means a right, it is a privilege. But James has done nothing to violate that privilege. He is merely accused, not guilty.
There has to be some way that James can avoid his accuser while still being able to attend classes.
I would understand if LaMichael was only allowed to go to class and back to his home without any stops or anything, but allowing him nowhere near the campus is absurd.
