UFC 110 : What's Next For The Stars?
Cain Velasquez
Cain, with his win over Nogueria, has officially proved he is one of the best at that division. Velasquez, at just 27 years old, has won eight times with seven coming by stoppage.
With his dominating win over Nogueria, a title shot should be imminent. He has beaten on Ben, Antonio, and Cheick now and is deserving of the shot. People want to see Brock in a fight, and soon. A fight at UFC 115 or 116 with Cain would be a great fight to watch and very intriguing. At first I would have immediately chosen Brock, but Cain has proven that he is in it to win it.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria
With his very dissapointing knockout loss to Cain, deciding whats next for him could be difficult. Being knocked out in two of his last three fights could prompt him to retire. We often forget that Antonio is still only thrity-three years old. He can still compete with the best, but has lost to two of the top two heavyweights in the division.
I would like to say hang them up. I know he can still fight and beat the best, but no one wants to see him fight and get knocked out yet again. I don't believe he will retire, he will hang in there and probably have one or two more fights. I would like him to fight Mirko Cro Cop, Paul Buentello, or Junior Dos Santos depending on how they fare in their upcoming fights.
Wanderlei Silva
I have several questions for Wanderlei, why didn't he attack like he did in the last ten seconds in the first? He would have had the same outcome, and would not be questioning a decision. This is a very good win for Silva, it brought back his technical kicking ability also. That is something he has been missing.
Silva should look to a fight with Nate Marquardt, wouldn't that be exciting. This fight would bring back alot of memories of his fight with Rich. Silva could also lean towards a Yushin Okami fight, both fighters are very intriguing and this would be a delight to watch. Although, it is already rumoured he will be fighting Akiyama, which will be a great fight.
Michael Bisping
He earned my respect with the resilency in the choke. I was shocked that he held on and did not tap. I am not a fan of Bisping, and I still dislike him but he did well against Silva. He showed heart alongside a great gameplan, he also could've won the fight if he wouldn't have got rocked in the last ten seconds.
Michael will get a lower fight in the middleweight division. He might want a rematch with Silva, but he won't get it anytime soon. A tough fight with Alan Belcher is possible, but not likely. If Alan can defeat Patrick Cote, if not why not Cote?
Michael wants and needs a big win, but not a impossible fight. Patrick Cote and Alan Belcher would fit this criteria.
Joe Stevenson
He was not beat, he was dominated. It wasn't that he was awful, it was that George was so good. Joe and Clay would be a very exciting fight to watch. Clay does have a fight coming up against a tough Shannon Gugerty, whoever wins that could be interested in a fight with "Daddy".
I would like to see Joe go up against Mac Danzig even. Mac would be a much easier fight, but Mac didn't do bad in his latest victory over Justin Buchholtz. Joe has alot of options, but some of them could lead him to losing and leaving the UFC.
George Sotiropolous
He had one of the most promising performances at UFC 110, with his win over Joe. He went out and defending and attempted submissions. He beat his opponent on the feet and on his back and on top.
Next fight for him could be Gray Maynard? Why not, I would love to see that fight, it would be a stand up war. It could also test Gray when he has a submission fighter on his back. He could also look for a fight with fellow ultimate fighter, although different season, Ross Pearson.
Ryan Bader
He seems at this time, alongside Jon Jones, as one of the biggest prospects in this division. Ryan should begin to look toward real big fights now, with his heavy hands and wrestling base. Could in a year or two be a real challenge for Lyoto Machida.
What is next for "Vader"? There are so many options for Ryan at this time. Alot of light heavyweights are really inactive or don't have fights coming up. He could settle for a fight with Randy Couture, Rich Franklin, or even Thiago Silva. All fights would be huge for Bader in his career, and could get Rich, Randy, and Thiago back into the title mix with a win. Bader is a very promising prospect, I'm expecting good things.
Keith Jardine
He was very inconsistent, now he is nothing. He has became a huge stepping stone, that is getting stepped all over. Losing his last three, two by knockout, picking a fight for him is nearly impossible.
The UFC has two options with him. One is be fair and cut him off the roster, or two put him on the undercard for another stepping stone bout.
Mirko Cro Cop
One of the most unsucessful victories ever. One he is fighting a man on two days notice. Two he is fighting a man that has no right to be in this fight. Mirko should step it up, plain and simple.
Mirko Cro Cop will fight another east fight, I'm sure. A fight between Nogueria would be intriguing, I would predict. I can also see him in a fight with Cheick Kongo, but he should be fighting Ben Rothwell. Which, I don't know about you all, but I really don't care about this fight at all.
Anthony Perosh
With his 0-3 record in the UFC, his cut is imminent. He was expected to make a two day comeback and defeat Mirko.
Say your farewells to Anthony, because this should be the last time you see him in the octagon. Don't think they will call on him again, what a heart though.
