Bayern Munich: Luck Shines On Bayern and the Curse of Neverkusen Returns
The best teams always need a bit of luck. Take Man United as an example. They had 10 own goals scored for them in their season. This tally is only behind Wayne Rooney's 21 goals. Bayern had plenty of luck going for them down the week.
Wolfsburg 1-3 Bayern
Bayern did not crush Wolfsburg as the score line suggests. They started the match on fire as Arjen Robben opened the scoring after two minutes only. Daniel Van Buyten's header gave them a 2-0 lead. Bayern seemed to be only too happy to protect the lead. Wolfsburg created atleast three clear cut chances. Even Artur Wichniarek would have finished off all three.

The first chance happened to be a penalty. Grafite failed to convert. The second was a blatant miss by Grafite. The third was converted by Grafite but only into stoppage time. Meanwhile, while Mr Grafite was finding it difficult to find the back of the net, Bayern were introducing Franck Ribery to the game.
Ribery scored the third goal to effectively end the match. Even this goal had plenty about it. Ribery beat Andrea Barzagli to the ball and sent it across the line. The goal was primarily credited to Barzagli as an own goal and it took forty eight hours for the DFB to finally credit the goal rightfully to Franck.
Van Gaal accused his team of arrogance and complacency and rightfully so, even though he took back his words later. This growing complacency was painfully exposed in their next game- but Lady Luck intervened....
Bayern 6-2 Greuther Furth
Bayern crushed Greuther Furth, but not until a very undeserved equalizer shifted momentum their way. Following Thomas Muller's opener at the beginning of the first half, Bayern turned in one of their worst first half displays of the season. Greuther Furth duly equalized following some comic defending through Christophe Nothe, pronounced "Nutta."
Sam Allagui, Furth's star striker missed two gilt edged chances, but then finally scored from the third.
Bayern went into the break, 2-1 down. Furth coach Mike Buskens could be forgiven if he was thinking about an upset. Christian Lell had little fault. Holger Badstuber and Martin Demichelis had left their heads at home.
In the second half, the game started much like the end of the first half. Funnily enough, a hand ball from ex Bayern player Stephan Furstner led to a very undeserved penalty for Bayern. Robben duly equalized. Bayern then turned on the style as Ribery, Muller and Philipp Lahm all added to the tally. The final goal was an own goal from sadly Sam Allagui.
Diego Contento and David Alaba both played in the second half as subs. Both were highly impressive. Alaba's vision is second to none and Contento is very impressive at the back and seems to be a perfect future partner for either Badstuber or Lahm.
Bayern vs Dortmund- A short preview.
Dortmund are a side which are involved in fun games. They can go out and attack, leaving them vulnerable at the back. They can also defend for an entire game. They will have to do the latter if they have to avoid getting thrashed like their previous encounter this season, 5-1.
Bayern won't let up. A flu outbreak has occurred there but most players are fit. Daniel Pranjic and Miro Klose who are both subs may be out. Either of their absences won't hurt the squad though.
I can't foresee any other result except a Bayern win.
Prediction: Bayern 3-1 Dortmund
Leverkusen have started wobbling again. Prior to last week, Schalke dropped two points against Bochum and let Bayern overtake them in second. On the other hand, last week, Leverkusen drew with Bochum, 1-1, a game which they should really have won. In the process, Bayern caught up with them. Bayern are now second only due to goal difference.
Bayern, as they beat Furth will be playing in the semifinals of the Pokal against Schalke at the Veltins Arena.
How long can Leverkusen hold the top spot? Your views and comments are definitely welcome!
