Are Donovan McNabb's Days Numbered in Philadelphia? | NFL Fantasy Impact
It still seems hard to believe that current Eagles’ quarterback Donovan McNabb could be in another uniform come the start of the 2010 fantasy football season. McNabb has been a fixture in Philadelphia, since he was drafted over Ricky Williams in the 1999 NFL draft.
Now, at age 33 McNabb is in the final years of his career, and former second round pick (2007) Kevin Kolb is waiting in the wings for a starting job. If the Eagles trade away McNabb at this point in his career, they could be looking at multiple picks, and one could be a first rounder.
While that would be a decent return, it still seems hard for me to actually believe that the Eagles would pull the trigger this offseason and get rid of a proven pro bowl caliber quarterback, especially when the Eagles as a team are built to win right now.
If McNabb Goes
If McNabb does, in fact, leave Philadelphia this offseason, then I believe you will see the Eagles miss the playoffs for at least one year. Even Aaron Rodgers couldn’t take the Packers to the playoffs in his first year as a starter, and they were coming of a season in which they played in the NFC Championship game.
Kolb will need at least one year of seasoning before he is truly ready to take this team farther than maybe a 9-7 record. That is unless, for some reason, the Eagles can return to play dominant defense and turn their running game around to become a top 10 in the NFL.
I could see the Eagles returning to a top five defense, but I don’t believe their offensive line or their personnel on the ground are suited to be a top 10 running team.
As far as fantasy football values go, DeSean Jackson will lose value because we don’t know if he can produce at the level he did with McNabb under center. I will say that it does make me feel better about his chances of success when Kolb and Jackson hooked up often when McNabb was out for two games in September.
In that time, Jackson had hundred yard games in both contest (Saints, Chiefs) and also had a touchdown of 60 yards or more in both games. Kolb also threw for over 300 yards and had two touchdown passes in each game.
While this is a good showing, I still need to see if they can produce consistently before Jackson is a true top five fantasy wide receiver.
