Super Bowl XLIV: Peyton Manning's Preparation Is Unmatched, Should Worry Saints

Daniel WolfFeb 6, 2010

As the hours dwindle and Sunday's Super Bowl XLIV matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints gets closer, no one seems to be talking about a significant advantage for the Colts: the preparation that Peyton Manning puts into every game.

The four-time NFL MVP is easily the hardest working student of the game the league may have ever seen.

Manning's study schedule probably rivals that of even the most decorated students in the world; before the Colts played the New York Jets in the divisional round of the playoffs, it was reported that Manning spent a ridiculously excessive amount of time honing his instinctual skills at reading Rex Ryan's defensive formations.

After the Colts beat the Jets, Manning admitted to being "mentally tired" from his preparation for that game.

Week in and week out, year in and year out, Manning always seems to be the most prepared quarterback in the NFL whenever he steps onto a football field, and it shows with his unwavering desire to win.

His ability to overcome any point deficit and the fact that he always seems to get better, regardless of how much pressure is put onto his shoulders, is unmatched.

Any NFL viewer that has watched any Colts game of the last decade can tell you that even as the viewer, you can almost feel the pressure that Manning has to shoulder during those games.

Manning could very well be the smartest quarterback to ever play the position in the NFL. His ability to process all the information he has learned throughout the week into instant decisions on the field is unmatched by any other.

Also reported numerous times is the fact that Manning actually holds meetings for his offense and the Colts' offensive coordinator, Tom Moore, will sit down and take notes while Manning is speaking.

Manning is not just a quarterback; he is an offensive coordinator while playing quarterback and Manning, not Moore, is the person who is drawing on the dry-erase board, creating strategies and making adjustments during halftimes of games.

There is no other quarterback who completely runs his offense like Manning, and Colts players have said that sometimes they will go weeks without hearing Manning talk about anything but football during the season.

He is the "X-Factor" for the Colts; he is the most dangerous player on the field on Sundays, and Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams will need to have his best gameplan ever to compete with Manning in Super Bowl XLIV.

Williams and the Saints defense should be fearing Manning, because, let's be honest, he is the most feared quarterback in the NFL, without a doubt.

The Saints defense is designed to create turnovers, but Manning does not take chances, and something will have to give in this matchup.

Don't bet against Manning, because right now he is ridiculously preparing for this challenge.

Regardless, this should be a fantastic display of offense by both teams and a Super Bowl to remember.
