Could the Raiders Consider Trading Nnamdi Asomugha?

Raider Card AddictFeb 4, 2010

For anyone who thinks that anyone in the Raiders organization is untouchable, remember one thing.

Al Davis traded a COACH before.

This is the land where Al Davis, if he finds the right deal, or in some cases the wrong deal, will send a guy packing just for the belief the team would be better off.

The first Randy Moss trade could be considered at the heyday a great step forward for Oakland. They would get a top-notch WR, in exchange for Napoleon Harris and a couple draft picks.

When Randy was determined to be a pain in the hindquarters, he was shipped off.

Marcus Allen, who had questioned Davis in the past, found himself in a doghouse. And Jerry Porter's career was killed when he elected to become the village idiot of 2006. A similar fate occurred for Ronald Curry, who complained about his diminished time with the club.

Both Porter and Curry are now out of the NFL.

But what about a team favorite, one that for the life of his career has been seen as a voice of reason? Has the money gone to his head? Is it an early April Fool's joke?

To one degree, it would be like the team dangling Tim Brown out to the league and saying, "Who's hungry?" at the best years of his career. Or for a better example offering up Ken Stabler, who did return a couple options from the Oilers, but was nowhere what we looked at for fair value.

And of course the Marcus Allen deal smarts.

Is Asomugha tired of all the losing the Raiders have put on his plate? True, one guy can't win it all, especially on the defense at corner. And true, Al Davis could use his value to land a lot of price tag. However, it becomes the question that Al would hate to deal with. Would the market be willing to trade a lot for Nnamdi when in two years he'll be a free agent? Then Al Davis would get nothing for the player.

Al has been known to make some outlandish deals, the Richard Seymour deal is still a head-scratcher to say the least. The question would remain though...would trading Asomugha make more sense to move the team forward, or would we find ourselves hating the deal for years to come?
