Big East Recruiting: Why Do They Hate This Conference?
They sure don't think much of the Big East, do they?
Rankings are in from the frenzy that is National Signing Day, or National Restocking Day, if you prefer. You won't find any Big East teams in the Top 10.
But first let me ask this question:
Name one freshman running back from last season that was better than Dion Lewis. How about Mohamed Sanu at Rutgers? How did he look last season? So tell me there were a bunch of these big-shot schools that had better freshman performers than those guys.
Just goes to show it's not about the four and five stars. It's about coaching talent, and the Big East has coaches who know what to do with what they get.
It looked like this for the Big East on Wednesday after Scouts, Inc. ranked the guys in this order:
Pitt: 16th overall; West Virginia 26th overall; Louisville 46th overall; Rutgers 48th; South Florida 50th; Syracuse 55th; Cincinnati 62nd, and UConn 72nd (sorry about that, Coach Edsall).
Rivals.com had the teams as follows:
West Virginia 19th; Pitt 33rd; Louisville 51st; Cincinnati 58th; Rutgers 63rd; South Florida 64th; Syracuse 78th, and UConn 83rd (sorry again, Coach Edsall).
ESPN ranked only the top 25, and there was no Big East school to be seen in there. No, the Big East is not the SEC, but then no one else is, either.
Highest-ranked player signed by a Big East school was South Florida as new coach Skip Holtz was able to land Miami Northwestern's Todd Chandler, a defensive lineman ranked 67th among the ESPN 150.
So love 'em or hate 'em, the Big East is what it is.
Oh by the way, I see Boise State ranked 82nd by Rivals.com.
So how do those BCS busters do it?
Maybe these ranking aren't all they're blown up to be.
