Super Bowl Media Day: The Unquotables
Happen to catch all the fireworks at Super Bowl Media Day today?
No?
That’s because all the sparks that blazed in Miami Tuesday couldn’t have lit a candle.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The big topic of the day was will Colts’ All-World defensive end Dwight Freeney play with a torn ankle ligament.
(It’s the freaking Super Bowl, people. Freeney would play in the game even if he didn’t even have ankles.)
So that’s what it’s come to–no superstars spouting off, just everyone playing things close to the vest and carrying themselves with class and honor.
(Yawn.) In case you missed it, here’s what you didn’t see in 2010 that you had seen at Media Day in the past.
You didn’t see Ray Buchanan showing up wearing a dog collar. You didn’t see Shannon Sharpe verbally attack the media on behalf of his teammate Ray Lewis. And–perhaps worst of all–you didn’t have electric personalities like Deion Sanders or Warren Sapp spouting off on anything and everything.
Instead you had Freeney talking about taking his injury one day at a time. You had Peyton Manning saying he will be playing hard for the Colts, and not secretly hoping his dad Archie’s old team, the Saints actually win. You had Indy coach Jim Caldwell giving us his typical blah, giving much respect to New Orleans and their football team.
You had Reggie Bush and Drew Brees talking about what this Super Bowl meant to the battered citizens of New Orleans. NO ONE said anything printable.
That’s right. I won’t read any Media Day stories, because none of the players or coaches said anything that I didn’t already know.
Whatever happened to being stupid? Whatever happened to giving the other team some bulletin board material? Whatever happened to the bad guys showing us why they’re the heel?
This game has no bad guy. They’re all just good guys that are incredibly easy to root for.
I hope the final score is 56-53. At least then I will be able to watch an entertaining championship, because I already know the good guys are going to win.
