The Perfect WWE Elimination Chamber Match

Jason donnellyFeb 2, 2010

Feb. 21 will debut the newest edition of the WWE's themed pay-per-views: The Elimination Chamber.

The concept of the night is simple.

Both the world titles will be defended in two separate six-man Elimination Chamber matches. Two men will begin fighting in a large circular cage. At regular intervals, four other superstars will be released from four isolated tubes and continue to wrestle until they are eliminated (by pinfall or submission) and one man is left as the new champion.

Despite replacing No Way Out, the WWE's newest program follows the same format of the last two events, which both featured elimination chamber matches.

As of last night, all five contenders of Sheamus' WWE Championship have been decided, and I admit that I am only mildly pleased at the assembly of talent the WWE has chosen.

Randy Orton, Ted Dibiase, and Kofi Kingston are all fine to compete in the match, but I wouldn't choose Sheamus to fight. However, he is the reigning champion, so unless he is relieved of his title in the following weeks, or is injured and deemed unable to compete, he will take part in Elimination Chamber.

My biggest concerns are about both Triple H and John Cena.

Shawn Michaels is the better half of Degeneration X and more entertaining and deserving than Triple H.

John Cena also seems like a dumb choice. Sure, Cena may benefit the match by drawing in extra fans, but does he really need the title shot? I believe the spot should have been given to a superstar of the future such as Chris Masters, Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger, or even The Miz.

So, what would be the perfect elimination chamber match? Take a look at what kinds of wrestling superstars I believe should fill the five empty slots. (I have based my choices around the Smackdown brand's top tier title, The World Heavyweight Championship.)

No. 1: The Underrated One

Wouldn't it be nice to see the one guy who most deserves a roster spot make the team?

It's like the WWE officials are more concerned on marketing buff guys with little-to-no wrestling talent (John Cena/ Batista) rather than promoting the real talent like Matt Hardy, Charlie Haas, and Jimmy Wang Yang.

I'd probably give the spot to the most deserving man: Matt Hardy.

No. 2: The Next Big Thing

Having big up-and-coming names going head-to-head with their superior colleagues is always great to watch.

In these matches, upper midcarder wrestlers can transform into serious contenders.

The top candidates for this position include Dolph Ziggler, John Morrison, R-Truth, and Drew McIntyre. In my opinion, the Scotsman would benefit the most. Competing alongside top-level competitors will both boost his legitimacy as a dominant Champion and allow him to show his wrestling capabilities.

No. 3: The Crowd Pleaser

The crowd pleasers are the ones who draw fans into the match simply with their presence in the ring. Not always the biggest star, the crowd pleaser adds entertainment value to the match.

No one on the Smackdown roster entertains as much as Rey Mysterio.

No. 4/5: The Next in Line for the Title

CM Punk and Chris Jericho are poised as the next in line for the Undertakers World Heavyweight Championship.

Both men always put on great matches and are great mic workers.

Chris Jericho will most likely be getting involved in a feud with Edge heading into Wrestlemania, so he is a logical choice.

My ultimate Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship would be The Undertaker vs. Matt Hardy vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho.

Thank you for reading my second attempt at producing quality work on Bleacher Report.com. Feel free to criticize and complain to your heart's content for this is my opinion and my opinion only.
