Arsene Wenger Knows Nothing about Aston Villa

Yoosof FarahJan 28, 2010

It appears that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is trying to make another managerial enemy after starting another war of the words.

After his infamous battles with the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Mark Hughes, Jose Mourinho, etc., Wenger has chosen to pick on Martin O'Neill and his Aston Villa team.

Following his side's 0-0 draw against Villa, the Frenchman said: "I believe we dropped two points because we had clear chances, but it was a very difficult game.

"They stopped us from playing when we had the ball, and when they had the ball. They played a very long ball game, closed us down and it was very difficult for us.

"We know when you come here what you get and we were not disappointed.

"Villa play a very efficient English game with long balls and (they are) very physical."

A ludicrous statement from Wenger, but to be fair to him, he did actually admit that Aston Villa played their long ball game "very well and are a good side when counter-attacking."

Of course, though, the problem is Aston Villa don't play a long ball game, and that was evident against Arsenal.

Now either Wenger is bitter after a draw in which both sides really could've done better, or he actually needs his eyes checked.

Like almost everyone, apart from Arsenal fans it would seem, Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill was bemused by Wenger's comments.

He said of Wenger's remarks on Villa's apparent long ball game: "If that is what he saw tonight, well that is a ridiculous statement.

"He has made a few ridiculous statements in his time here [in England] and that is as good as any. That is an appalling insult.

"I thought we played splendidly in the game. [Manuel Almunia] made a great save from Gabriel Agbonlahor early on and Ashley Young produced some incredible balls into the box that just needed a touch on them.

"Arsenal caused us problems and we had a bit of luck when they hit the post and crossbar, but we did not deserve to lose in this game."

Clearly, Yoosof Farah isn't the only one who thinks Arsene Wenger is talking a bit of nonsense there.
