David Beckham Reveals Manchester United Regret

Yoosof FarahJan 3, 2010

David Beckham, who is set for a second spell at AC Milan to secure his place for England at the 2010 World Cup, has revealed his regret in leaving Manchester United .

The England superstar has stated he would've relished the chance to stay at Old Trafford and emulate the likes of legendary United stars such as Ryan Giggs , the club's highest ever appearance-maker.

Bekcham and Giggs came through the Manchester United Youth Academy together and became key members of the side which dominated English football in the 1990s.

But while Beckham left for Real Madrid in 2003 after his relationship with manager Sir Alex Ferguson  declined, Giggs went on to break United's appearance record, and last year was named PFA Player of the Year for the first time in his career.

"I'd have loved to have stayed at Manchester United for my whole career and never gone anywhere else, but it just wasn't meant to be," Beckham told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"It takes a special person and a player to stay at a club for so many years. Ryan [Giggs] has been there for so many years now and he'll be part of Manchester United for life. He's a Manchester boy and it runs through his blood.

"I'm so honoured to have played with Ryan through the years I did and to know him as a person and a player.

"He deserves all the success he's had this year and in the other years."

The 34-year old former England captain will face his old club in the UEFA Champions League in March; it will be Beckham's first return as a player to Old Trafford since his move to Real Madrid six years ago.
