Arsenal were faced with a tough task, taking on the in-form Aston Villa. Villa look a side capable of breaking the "Big Four" barrier, and thanks to their recent form at the Emirates, there were a few nerves.

However, Arsenal prevailed, thanks to a 28-minute stint from their amazing captain, Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas was forced to start from the bench due to a hamstring injury, and with the game scoreless, Wenger knew. Fabregas was brought on in the 56th minute and instantly made an impact.

The Spanish maestro broke the deadlock with a superb free kick then a fine finish made it two before he was substituted as a precaution. Abou Diaby scored in injury time to give the Gunners an impressive 3-0 win.

Player Ratings

Manuel Almunia: 7: Another clean sheet for the Spaniard. When called upon, Almunia looked solid and strong. A last-ditch save beautifully denied Agbonlahor a certain goal.

Bacary Sagna: 7: Contained Ashley Young with ease and was also a figure in attack.

William Gallas: 7: Strong and powerful in defence, his leadership proved useful when Fabregas was absent.

Thomas Vermaelen: 7: Defended well on the likes of Carew, Heskey, and Agbonlahor and rose high on the long balls. A little nervy at times.

Armand Traore: 7: Went about the game without setting the world on fire. Contributed in attack and his pace was more than useful when defending.

Alexandre Song: 8: Once again, the Cameroonian was superb. Tracked back whenever Gallas got forward and his usual sharp midfield defending was great. Also played a big role in attack, especially when Fabregas was absent.

Denilson: 6.5:   As usual, his work ethic went unnoticed but the Brazilian did well. Made way for Fabregas in second half.

Abou Diaby: 8.5: Another excellent effort from the lanky Frenchman. Glided past players when attacking, his long legs opening gaps and opportunities. A sublime finish meant he made the score sheet.

Samir Nasri: 7: Was a constant feature in the attack, trying to conjure up some French magic.

Eduardo Da Silva: 6: Missed a wonderful opportunity early on and you felt his confidence is still returning. A few good runs.

Andrei Arshavin: 7: Quiet until Fabregas entered the fray, and then the little Russian burst to life. The central striker role his not ideal for him, but he still works hard.
