Javier Vazquez For Melky Cabrera? This HAS to Be a Joke.
I was awoken this morning to a horrible site on my computer screen.
See, the night before I was up late refreshing the page to try and figure out what starting pitcher the Yankees were after.
The Atlanta Braves made good sense to be a trading partner, due to their surplus of good starters. Certainly it would be Derek Lowe and prospects for a mid-range outfielder, or even Javier Vazquez for a swell player like Nick Swisher. Right? Right? Right?

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Wrong.
The New York Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan for Melky Cabrera, Mike Dunn, and a prospect to be named later.
If you're a Braves fan, a Yankee hater, or even a fan of fair and just trade, you should be throwing up on the screen right now. Wipe it off before you continue.
Let me throw out a line to you: 15 Wins, 238 Strikeouts, 2.87 ERA, and 1.03 Whip.
On most teams, that is usually followed with: Staff Ace.
So, he should at least be worth a 20 HR, 80+ RBI player , especially if you're throwing in a good young pitcher like Boone Logan?
Next line: 13 HR, 68 RBI, .274 batting average.
If you didn't throw up before, I'm positive you will now.
Frank Wren, the General "Manager", if you can call him a manager, for the Atlanta Braves has just laid one of the biggest eggs of the decade.
He has traded away a work-horse veteran pitcher for, in essence, a scrub outfielder with very little power and average speed.
Forget Mike Dunn and the prospect, they are on the move because they most likely looked at A-Rod wrong or scuffed Derek Jeter's sneakers or something. They don't even matter.
Wren has said he was looking for power. He has said he was going to give the Braves added pop in the lineup they've been craving. Is he watching the same player we are?
I'm usually not one to cast a coach or manager to hell because of a mistake (see: A Letter To Mark Richt article), but after failing to get Jake Peavy, not giving us the big bat before last season, not bringing in Ken Griffey Jr, salary dumping to Type-A relievers, and now trading a pitching gem for a sterling silver charm of a bat.
I have to propose the question:
What the hell is Frank Wren doing?
(Disclaimer: IF, and only if, Wren manages to somehow use this salary space to bring in Johnny Damon, Matt Holiday, or Jason Bay, I will eat humble pie and write a new article praising the man)
