Seattle Mariners Obtain Milton Bradley From Cubs For Carlos Silva
By Caesar Cliffius.
The Seattle Mariners are doing what they can to field a contending team. After an 85-77, third place finish in the American League West last season, they created instant support by acquiring southpaw pitcher Cliff Lee from the Philadelphia Phillies. Lee will join a pitching staff that is currently anchored by Felix Hernandez.
To show their commitment to the rest of the league, they sent pitcher Carlos Silva to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for troubled outfielder Milton Bradley.

Silva, by far was the most expensive man on the Mariner pitching staff, pulling down $12,000,000 this past season. In two seasons with Seattle Silva had a record of 5-18 with an ERA of 6.81
Bradley has had a checkered career to state it mildly. He has played 10 seasons in the major leagues and Seattle is his eighth stop along the way. In 2004 he had an altercation with manager Eric Wedge while with the Cleveland Indians. He was suspended for two games while with the Chicago Cubs in 2009 for making physical contact with umpire Larry Vanover. He also had a run-in or two with manager Lou Piniella
Bradley will probably be counted on as a starting left fielder joining Franklin Guitierrez and Ichiro Suzuki in the outfield.
Bradley had played for the Montreal Expos, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland A’s, San Diego Padres and the Texas Rangers prior to coming to Chicago. His best season so far was 2008 while with the Rangers. He batted .321 with 22 HR and 77 RBI. He led the league in OBP, OPS and OPS+ with 161. It was also the only season he was on an All-Star team.
Bradley and Silva’s stats are reflected in the graphics below:
