Cavs Play Follow The Idiot

SY RobersonDec 5, 2009

As journalist Matt Smith has written, Lebron James and his ego are completely out of line.  During the last two seasons I've been a witness to more of Lebron's tom-foolery than his claim to the throne as the undisputed chosen one,  King James.

I shook my head through most of his antics during the past few years.  During some points even felt embarrassed for him.  I dont find it necessary to recap his displays of unprofessionalism and unsportsmanlike behavior as they have been heavily publicized.

I watched last year as he and his followers made an ass out of themselves as they simulated photo sessions and showed off their numerous dancing routines, which reminded me more of my junior high's basketball team than a man's PROFESSIONAL sport.  I've seen more clips than I would care to on Sportscenter, chronicling his battle with immaturity.

What surprises me most are the actions of his minions.  Forget for a moment my difficulty understanding why one man would behave the way he does at times, help me to understand how a group of grown, accomplished men follow him as he behaves like an idiot. In last nights game against the Chicago Bulls, I watched in amazement as he was shuckin and jiving on the sidelines.  I watched rookie Danny Green, encourage this craziness by joining in on this circus side show.

It doesnt take a genious to recognize that no one, (maybe with the exception of Bruce Bowen or Charles Barkley) has the guts to speak against his handling of himself. Most around him would rather remain silent or join in and encourage his displays of arrogance.  I would like to see a team member or coach approach him and inform him that this is not the way a professional and so-called role model presents himself.  I try to imagine Michael Jordan dancing on the sidelines during one of the many butt whoopings the Chicago Bulls handed out during their championship runs. I try to picture him putting on a sideshow as a rookie or second year player after one of his miraculous performances, but I fail there as well.

James took offense to the Bulls Joakim Noah expressing his dissatisfaction with the Cavs' antics. He approached Noah as if he was actually about to do something.  Which is a joke. We all know that Lebron is more Le'Baby than Le'King.  He cries and throws tantrums more often than my two year old niece.  Even once provided with the opportunity to downplay this incident and his teams behavior, he chose to criticize Noah's contributions to the game instead.  Ending with "I have nothing to apologize for.  My team and I did nothing wrong.  We're just having fun".  Funny, I didnt see them having fun or dancing much after the Orlando Magic sent them home for an early vacation last season.

I look to take nothing away from his talent, his drive or his competitive spirit. What bothers me is that most wont comment on his unprofessionalism because of his level of talent. Its as if ignorance is excused if you're capable of dominating on the court. Everyone follows along in order to keep the peace and to remain in King James' graces.  No matter what he does or says, his team is content to just follow the idiot
