EPL: The Clash Of The Titans! I Can't Wait For Next Season!

Barney CorkhillJun 14, 2008

Next season is shaping up to be an absolute classic. With managers coming and going and more big names being linked to various clubs, the EPL looks set to build on last season's success.

Mark Hughes, the brightest young British manager in the game seems set to splash Shinawatra's cash and finally have a decent transfer budget.

The Ronaldinho deal so many of us laughed at when it first came up is looking a real possibility, and with Jo reportedly on the way as well, Man City will be a force to be reckoned with next season.

"Sparky" left Blackburn behind, but they look set to capture probably the second brightest young British manager in the country, Paul Ince. That's right, "The Guv'nor" may be coming back to the Premier League, and I can see him being a huge success.

The battle I'm most looking forward to, though, is Sir Alex Ferguson v Luiz Felipe Scolari.

One of the best managers of all time against the best manager in the world today.

This will be Fergie's biggest test to date. Wenger has been a constant thorn in his side, Mourinho was a problem temporarily and even Avram Grant caused him problems. But none of them can match up with the larger than life personality of Scolari. None have the experience to challenge Ferguson.

Until now.

I think I'm right in saying that Scolari comes in as the only World Cup winning manager to ever manage in the EPL. Ferguson can have his ten championships, but nothing compares to the experience of winning the World Cup.

He also got to the European Championships final in 2004, and his team are looking good again in this tournament.

Of course, managing at club level is a different task, but is probably an easier one. At international level you have a limited amount of players, whereas at club level, particularly with the millions of Roman Abramovich, you can sign almost anyone.

One thing I don't understand, however, is why he chose Chelsea now, and not England in 2006. He was rightly first choice for the job, as he was the best manager in the world then as well, but turned it down because of the media intrusion.

Unfortunately, he'll probably get more intrusion at Chelsea, something he's probably already found out for himself.

However, while I question Chelsea being the right choice for Scolari, I have no doubt that Scolari is the right choice for Chelsea. They needed a huge personality, and a force in the dressing room. Scolari ticks both those boxes and many more.

There aren't many people who I'd prefer to be in charge at Anfield than Rafa Benitez, but he would be one of them.

Chelsea will be an even bigger force next season, but with a lot of other teams strengthening their squads even more than previous seasons, this coming EPL term promises to be a humdinger!
