Super Bowl 2021: Chiefs vs. Buccaneers Game Odds, Final Score Predictions

Jake RillFeb 6, 2021

It's nearly time for the biggest football game of the year: the Super Bowl. And this season, an exciting matchup could be in store.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be heading to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who will become the first team to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium, on Sunday night in Super Bowl LV. It's a rematch of a Week 12 contest, which Kansas City won 27-24 in Tampa Bay.

If the Chiefs win the Super Bowl, they will be the first team to win consecutive championships since the New England Patriots won back-to-back titles in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. The Bucs haven't won the Super Bowl since the 2002 season.

Preview, Prediction

It shouldn't come as a surprise that the Chiefs are the betting favorites heading into Super Bowl LV. They have been dominant all season, losing only one game in which they played their starters (their second loss came in Week 17 with many backups playing).

Tampa Bay is entering the matchup with a lot of momentum of its own, so there's a solid chance that Sunday's game will be competitive. The Buccaneers haven't lost since their Week 12 defeat to the Chiefs. They ended the regular season with four straight wins and opened the playoffs with three straight road victories over the Washington Football Team, New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers.

It could also be a high-scoring Super Bowl. Kansas City led the NFL with 415.8 total yards per game during the regular season, and its offense is led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was the MVP of Super Bowl LIV and the NFL MVP during the 2018 season.

But the Bucs offense is led by six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who continues to play quarterback at a high level at 43. He's surrounded by a host of talented playmakers, including the receiving trio of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown.

When the Chiefs won the Super Bowl last year, it marked the first championship for head coach Andy Reid, who has led plenty of talented teams over the past two decades.

"He's got almost like a father figure kind of role in the building, and it's because everyone loves him so much," Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce said, per Barry Wilner of the Associated Press. "He's got an unbelievable way of getting the best out of everybody that is relating to all different aspects and all different forms of life."

And it's likely that Reid will get the best out of the Chiefs' players in the Super Bowl once again, especially considering he and many of his players know what it takes to win on this stage. That's why Kansas City is going to end up pulling out a close victory over Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Last year, the Chiefs faced adversity in the Super Bowl, as they trailed by 10 points entering the fourth quarter against the San Francisco 49ers. But they scored three touchdowns in the final quarter to win their first Super Bowl since the 1969 season.

It's going to take some late offense for Kansas City to come out on top again this year. Tampa Bay is a strong all-around team, and it will have the lead at the midway point of the fourth quarter.

However, the Bucs won't be able to stop Mahomes and the Chiefs offense with the game on the line. Kansas City will score a late touchdown, there won't be enough time for Tampa Bay to respond and the Chiefs will again be the Super Bowl champions.

Prediction: Chiefs 33, Buccaneers 27
