Cleveland's Pitchers Trump Boston's Sluggers

The Indians were called underdogs before their ALDS matchup with the New York Yankees.

On Monday night, they proved they deserve to be exactly where they are.

A two-run shot from Kenny Lofton in the second inning and stellar work from the bullpen helped Cleveland to a 4-2 win.

They now lead the heavily favored Red Sox two games to one.

Jake Westbrook didn't flinch when Jason Varitek hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning—he struck out the next batter, then turned it over to the pen. The Tribe relievers managed to keep Big Papi and Manic Manny in the ballpark.

Varitek ended the game with a groundout in the ninth.

IconHistory, Momentum Favor the Rockies

Any doubt left about Matt Holiday?

The Colorado Rockies sealed their fate after a wild one in Denver, becoming the sixth straight wild card team to make the World Series.

The Rocks have won a record 21 of their last 22 games, sweeping both the Phillies in the NLDS and the Diamondbacks in the NLCS.

Talk about momentum.

Holliday hit a three-run homer to polish off a six-run fourth inning, and was a runaway winner of the series MVP trophy after the Rocks' 6-4 win.

As it stands, the Blake Street Bombers have finally given Denver fans something to cheer about. The city will host its first major sports championship in six years (Avalanche 2001)—and, for once, the Broncos will have to take a back seat to the red-hot Rockies.

The Rockies became the first team to sweep the NLCS since the 1995 Atlanta Braves.

Looking Back...Looking Ahead

One final note: This is my 100th Bleacher Report article—quite a career milestone.

I'd like to thank my family, whose motivation got me this far. I'd also like to thank the sports teams I've written on, and the fans who either loved it or hated it.

I also can't possibly forget the writers, commenters, editors, and journalists at Bleacher Report, who've given me reason to smile fire back, and above all else, believe in myself.

Here's to 100 articles down...and to 100 articles more!
