Celtics to Secure No. 17 NBA Championship
The Celtics came out on fire the first two games of the '08 NBA Finals. Despite the amount of turnovers they were able to walk out with a 98-88 victory in game one and a 108-102 victory in game two.
Tonight, Tuesday, June 10, the Celtics will win game three, in LA. Why? Well, why not?
The Celtics have been at their best offensively this series thus far. And if Leon Powe can carry over his performance in game two (21 pts. in 19 minutes), there is no way that the Lakers' defense can focus on K.G. as the only inside force.
Powe showed great assertiveness getting to the basket, and the foul line (out—attempted the Lakers 9-1 in the first half).
It's not just the paint that the Lakers need to be concerned about either.
Rajon Rondo is getting it done. Rondo showed in game one that if they laid off him, like teams have been doing throughout the playoffs, he'll take advantage of it via 15 pts. He then came back in game two with the Lakers playing up on him, and adapted, dishing out 16 dimes. The Celtics are just showing too much versatility for the Lakers to do anything about.
The defense of the Celtics, is strong. Kobe and his Lakers have been forced into bad shot after bad shot, and the swarming team defense the Celtics play is what's doing that.
The Lakers cannot rely on unconscious shooting from the three point line to get them back into games, like they did in game two.
If the Lakers have any hope of winning this series they must find a way to get through the defense instead of taking jump-shot after jump-shot. If they cannot muster some aggression enough to win tonight, or in the next game, they have zero chance to win this series, because it WILL be over.
The Celtics aren't doing anything wrong right now, except for the turnovers, they just need to keep doing what their doing because the Lakers will not have another perfect shooting performance (fourth quarter of game two) and they WILL win this series and their 17th NBA championship.
