The 2018 All-Star was inching toward his Mets debut. He made eight appearances across the franchise's High-A and Triple-A affiliates in order to work himself back into game shape. He batted .161 with one home run and two RBI.
When New York signed Lowrie to a two-year, $20 million contract, it seemed like a reasonable deal. Lowrie was coming off a career year. He slugged .448 with 23 home runs and 99 RBI for the Oakland Athletics, and he ranked 20th in WAR among position players (4.9), per FanGraphs.
Even though durability has been a problem throughout his career, nobody could've predicted the bad luck that would befall the 11-year veteran.
New York could certainly use Lowrie's bat in the lineup. The Mets are 19-20 and 4.5 games back of the first-place Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. They're also 18th in weighted on-base average (.317) and 12th in weighted runs created plus (102), according to FanGraphs.
