Unbroken Record: 76 Goals As a Rookie
No one can argue against the fact that Alex Ovechkin is one of the most exciting and prolific goal scorers in the NHL today. Entering his 5th season in the NHL, Ovechkin's down season included 46 goals and 46 assists for 92 points.
Pretty impressive. During his rookie campaign, he put the puck past goaltenders 52 times. That's when the fans started cheering for the number one pick of the 2004 draft.
He started taking the light away from Sidney Crosby, who has been coveted by the hockey world for years. Crosby scored 102 points as a rookie but lost the Calder race to a more enigmatic goal scorer.

Draft Lottery Winners and Losers
No one expects less from Ovie now that he has three 50+ goal season under his belt, and currently has 13 goals in 12 games of the new season. However, there is one goal scorer, a man who is in his 17th NHL season, who had a much more impressive rookie campaign than Alexander the Great.
Teemu Selanne was drafted 10th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 1988 and broke into the NHL during the 1992-1993 season. It was during his rookie season that he scored 76 goals. To put this into perspective, that is 24 more goals than Alex Ovechkin scored in his rookie season.
This is most definitely one record that will not be broken. At least for many years to come. There will not be another set of drafts where we will get talent like Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin. Ovechkin would be most people's choice to break this record, but his rookie season has already gone.
I therefore must conclude that Teemu Selanne has one of the most unbeatable records in sports.
