Chris Cooley Lost for Season, Redskins Hope Fred Davis Is a Find off Bench
Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley will miss the remainder of the 2009 NFL season with a broken right foot.
He suffered the injury while making a cut on a passing play in Monday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Cooley, who had never missed a game previously in his career, was having a solid season. With 29 catches for 332 yards and two touchdowns, he was on pace for at least 60 catches, 660 yards, and four scores on the season.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
He had already topped last season's one touchdown total and was easily one of quarterback Jason Campbell's favorite and most reliable targets.
Cooley's loss will definitely be felt, but not just in the passing game. With a recent injury to tackle Chris Samuels (that could be career-threatening) and other injuries on the offensive line, Cooley was helping out even more as a blocker.
However, with his absence, the team must now rely on the young, inexperienced Fred Davis. Davis is an exceptional offensive talent with vast potential but is not regarded as a good blocker or disciplined route runner.
Add Cooley's season-ending injury to the long list of disappointments for this 2009 Washington Redskins team.
Cooley generated a lot of attention from Campbell, so Fred Davis is likely to get at least half of the looks that Cooley would normally get. Davis isn't an elite blocker either, so it's fairly obvious what he's being used for when on the field. He can be considered a decent TE2 in most leagues, with solid potential.
