British Open 2018: Tee Times, Pairings and Predictions for Sunday Schedule

James DudkoJul 21, 2018

Things are getting crowded at the top of the 2018 British Open leaderboard ahead of the final day. Defending champion Jordan Spieth will start Sunday in a three-player tie for the lead along with Xander Schauffele and Kevin Kisner.

The trio will be aware both Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods can still claim the Claret Jug. They are four shots off the lead but proved on Day 3 that they can still shoot an excellent round when needed:

Spieth to Finish the Job

The Open title hasn't been successfully defended for 10 years, but Spieth can achieve the feat if he plays the same composed and technically flawless golf he produced during Round 3.

Spieth set the tone with a terrific tee shot to the green:

While the 24-year-old made steady progress over the front nine, he saved his best golf for the final holes. Spieth sunk a trio of birdie putts across the back nine, with the last coming at the par-three 16:

He looked in the mood to retain his title, and expect to see Spieth holding the Claret Jug once more.

McIlroy to be Runner-Up as Woods Fades

Woods has left himself in position to make his strongest run in recent memory at a first major title since 2008. The 42-year-old looked close to his peak on Saturday:

His progress was swift, with three birdies on the front nine and the same number on the back. In fact, Woods appeared set for better than a tie for sixth until his bogey at the 16th.

It was a rare but costly blip for the three-time winner. While he still has the title in sight, Woods will be under pressure to better his fine Day 3 form.

Even so, Spieth is relishing the challenge of Woods trying to chase him down:

Spieth should also be aware of McIlroy after the 29-year-old's solid 70. Three bogeys on the back nine may have cost him in what was shaping up to be an excellent round, but McIlroy is still one to watch on the final day.

McIlroy was able to hit birdies on the 11th and 15th holes:

His ability to hold his nerve in the clutch will be pivotal on what promises to be a tense final day. While Woods, Kisner and Schauffele will eventually fall short of Spieth, McIlroy will keep the pressure on the champion.
