NBA Summer League: Jaren Jackson Jr. Leads Grizzlies Past Zhaire Smith, 76ers
The Memphis Grizzlies advanced to the semifinals of the NBA Summer League with an 82-73 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Jaren Jackson Jr. finished with 14 points and eight rebounds and connected on two of his four three-point attempts. The No. 4 overall pick made his biggest impact on the defensive end, where he blocked a game-high four shots:
Jackson received strong reviews for his performance:
Jackson's offense will likely be a work in progress, but he should be able to make an immediate impact in Memphis with his defense and rebounding.
Kobi Simmons and Brandon Goodwin also played well in the victory, scoring 15 and 21 points apiece, respectively.
For the Sixers, first-round draft pick Zhaire Smith struggled to find his shooting stroke. He had five points and was 0-of-2 from three-point range. Smith did, however, collect four rebounds and dish out four assists.
The Stepien's Cole Zwicker was impressed with Smith's effort level on defense, too:
Furkan Korkmaz capped off a promising summer league with a team-high 18 points. The second-year guard might have played his way into a bigger role with the team based on his performance in Las Vegas.
The Grizzlies' attention now shifts to the next round. Memphis will meet the Portland Trail Blazers, with tipoff scheduled for Monday at 10:30 p.m. ET.
