Royals Beat Royal Challengers, Keep Play-Off Dreams Alive
Rajasthan and Bangalore faced off in a crucial play-off eliminator, and Royals' great effort with the ball saw them emerge victorious.
Rahul Tripathi patient, unbeaten 80 in the first innings paced Rajasthan to a relatively low total of 164. Without their star opener, however, their play-off hopes would have died before they ever got the chance to bowl.
Bangalore initially appeared on pace for an easy chase. AB De Villiers scored a half-century, and the team's required run rate didn't start to climb until the middle overs. But a great spell with the ball from Shreyas Gopal halted their momentum, and the chase came crashing down. RCB's scoring ended on 134 with four balls to spare.
Gopal finished with four wickets in four overs, giving up just 16 runs in the process.
Per Cricbuzz, RCB skipper Virat Kohli was disappointed afterwards, but he remained gracious and wished the play-off teams luck:
Kolkata Book Their Play-Off Ticket
It wasn't easy, but Knight Riders knocked off the IPL leaders on Saturday to clinch a play-off spot. Dinesh Karthik finished the chase with a single, the fifth time he was not out in six successful chases for Kolkata this season.
The result hung in the balance for a long time, and the chase seemed to be on the verge of collapsing at one point:
Kolkata started their innings in fine form, needing 173 after Sunrisers failed to capitalise on a score of 127-2 after 12.5 overs. Hyderabad became more aggressive in their search for wickets in the final overs, but Kolkata kept their cool and completed the chase with just a few balls to spare.
What's Next?
There's one more play-off spot up for grabs, with Royals in pole position before Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab feature on Sunday. If Mumbai beat last-placed Delhi Daredevils, they're in, per ESPNCricinfo's Alagappan Muthu.
