NBA Combine Results 2018: Players Who Made the Biggest Impression

Joe TanseyMay 19, 2018

The NBA combine was crucial for a certain group of players dreaming of hearing their names called at June's NBA draft.

A combination of players who haven't signed with agents, and under-the-radar upperclassmen, shined in Chicago to improve their overall draft stock.

Creating a buzz at this point in the draft process is vital. Teams now get a chance to dig deeper into a player's film and background, as they are intrigued by selecting them.

While there were plenty of standout showings at the combine, a few prospects stood out the most during individual testing and scrimmages.

Players Who Made the Biggest Impression

Donte DiVincenzo, SG, Villanova

The chances of the Most Outstanding Player from the NCAA men's basketball tournament staying in the draft are higher after Donte DiVincenzo's combine performance.

The Villanova guard, who hasn't hired an agent yet, turned heads in Chicago with his ability in a number of categories.

DiVincenzo's shooting was a known commodity going into the combine thanks to his tremendous performance in the national championship, and he's also impressed on the glass, per Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman:

With plenty of late first-round suitors watching, DiVincenzo made some eye-catching plays, including one Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated pointed out:

Given how well he's performed in Chicago, it's hard to argue against DiVincenzo entering the draft in June since it appears he'll be a first-round selection.

Some of the teams he could land with include the Los Angeles Lakers at No. 25 and Philadelphia 76ers at No. 26, both of whom are looking for shooting guard depth.

Kevin Hervey, SF/PF, UT-Arlington

Of the mid-major players at the combine, UT-Arlington's stood out the most, as he shined during Friday's action.

Hervey recorded 21 points on seven shots and caught some attention for his 7'4" wingspan, per ESPN's Mike Schmitz:

In his senior season at UT-Arlington, Hervey averaged 20.5 points per game, an improvement of over three points from his junior campaign.

As he displayed throughout the combine, Hervey is a natural scorer, which is a trait that will show up when scouts look at his game tape.

In 33 games, Hervey scored in double digits on 31 occasions, but now the question surrounding him becomes how much do NBA teams value him.

At the moment, Hervey appears to be a second-round option at best, but that's a step up from what his potential landing spot may have been entering the combine.

Kevin Huerter, SG, Maryland

Kevin Huerter was one of two Maryland prospects hoping to make an impact in Chicago, and he stood out among the players at his position.

The shooting guard's ability to knock down three-pointers impressed plenty of NBA personnel in attendance, per ESPN's Jonathan Givony:

Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer complimented Huerter's game even more and noted how he could rise on draft boards in the next month:

In his sophomore season at Maryland, Huerter averaged 14.8 points per game and made 41.7 percent of his three-point attempts.

Although he struggled down the stretch of Big Ten play from beyond the arc. Huerter possesses the tools to be an immediate contributor at shooting guard.

If teams fall in love with him enough, Huerter could sneak into the back end of the first round, but he might end up being one of the top steals of the second round.
