Report: Warriors' Pat McCaw to Have 1st On-Court Pregame Workout Since Injury
Golden State Warriors guard Patrick McCaw is set to return to the court Monday for his first pregame workout since he suffered a back injury in March.
Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports reported the news.
The Warriors have not given McCaw a designated status on their injury report, but Charania reported McCaw is potentially "on track" to return at some point during the playoffs.
McCaw told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated that he hopes to play again this postseason.
"That is a goal, definitely. I definitely want to be back this season. That is my main goal," McCaw said.
McCaw suffered a spinal contusion in a March 31 matchup against the Sacramento Kings when Vince Carter inadvertently undercut him. He was motionless on the court for an extended period and needed to be carried off the floor on a stretcher.
McCaw described the injury to Spears as a "life-changing moment."
"It was definitely a life-changing moment for me," McCaw said. "It is so much bigger than basketball to say that I can stand on my own two feet again and be able to walk again. It made everything so much bigger than what I had been seeing it for. You really take so much for granted being young and thinking you'll be able to get it back if you make a mistake."
The Warriors play the Houston Rockets in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Monday. McCaw does not seem likely to play much, if at all, in this series. His nearly two-month absence makes it more probable that he would only play in garbage time for the remainder of the postseason.
