Players Championship 2018: Easy-to-View Mobile Updates for Sunday Leaderboard

Tom SunderlandMay 13, 2018

Webb Simpson holds a seven-shot lead heading into the final round of the 2018 Players Championship on Sunday and looks nailed on to win his first PGA Tour event in five years as long as he can hold his nerve.

The North Carolina native carded a 68 on Saturday to push his score to 19 under par, with a wide margin of seven separating him from second-place Danny Lee at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Dustin Johnson sits nine shots off the lead in third, while Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth are two of seven players with a share of ninth place after carding a terrific pair of 65s on Saturday.

The official PGA Tour Twitter account provided a look at the leaderboard's top 10 after play came to a close following the third round:

Simpson recorded his highest round score on Saturday but need not chase shots much in the final round as he sits seven strokes to the good, and it would take a mighty comeback from the chasing pack to topple the leader.

The PGA Tour's official website carries the live leaderboard, which will be updated throughout the final round.

Simpson's Sunday Stroll

Despite the considerable advantage Simpson boasts over his competitors heading into the last round of the Players Championship, the level of talent in the field directly behind means no rest until the deed is done late Sunday.

Although Saturday produced Simpson's worst round in terms of shot count, it wasn't in quality of shots, and the PGA Tour posted a third-round recap with footage of his stupendous eagle on 11:

The 32-year-old has shown more verge to his play than a man without a PGA Tour win since 2013, and sports reporter Dennis Dodd illustrated the domination Simpson has demonstrated over the past three days:

Lee's round of 70 on Saturday was also his worst of the competition thus far, but a composed Sunday performance blessed with a few errors on Simpson's side could yet see that seven-stroke gulf pinned back.

The tournament looks to be done for joint-ninth Woods and Spieth, but the Golf Channel's Ryan Lavner found a silver lining behind a pairing of greats past and present:

Simpson's previous best finish in a PGA Tour even this season was tying for fourth at the Sony Open in Hawaii back in January, but the 2012 U.S. Open champion looks to be recovering his best form from that period.

It would require a substantial capitulation on his part for anyone else to clinch the Player Championship on Sunday, and the calm he's displayed this weekend—he's dropped five shots in three rounds—suggests the lead is in safe hands.
