Walt Frazier Doesn't Think Injured Kristaps Porzingis Plays 'At All' Next Season

Joseph ZuckerMay 8, 2018

New York Knicks color commentator Walt Frazier is among those expecting the worst-case scenario for Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis.

Frazier told SportsNet New York's Justine Ward he believes Porzingis could miss the entire 2018-19 season while recovering from a torn ACL.

Knicks owner James Dolan has also broached the possibility of Porzingis missing all of next year.

"I've been told everything from December to him being out for the season, so I don't know what to expect on that," Dolan said of the situation in April, per the New York Post's Larry Brooks. "But we can't just sit on our ass while he's away. We need to develop a team and then integrate him into it when he comes back."

Even if he doesn't experience any significant setbacks in his recovery, Porzingis is bound to miss an extended stretch at the start of next season.

Generally speaking, there's little reason for the Knicks to rush Porzingis back to the court. They won just 29 games in 2017-18, and if anything, they have a stronger incentive to tank in 2018-19 since they once again own their first-round draft pick in 2019.

While missing an entire year wouldn't be ideal for Porzingis' development, he'll only turn 23 in August. His long-term health should be the Knicks' top priority.
