Juventus Reportedly Reach Summer Transfer Agreement with Chelsea's Alvaro Morata

Christopher SimpsonMay 7, 2018

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has reportedly reached an agreement with Juventus to join them this summer, provided the two clubs can do the same.

According to Rai Sport (h/t Metro), the Spaniard has agreed to take a pay cut in order to rejoin the Bianconeri, but the Italian club are unwilling to spend more than the £60 million Chelsea paid to sign him from Real Madrid last summer.

Alternatively, Juve could put forth a two-year loan deal that includes an option to buy in 2020.

Morata has contributed 15 goals and six assists in all competitions this season, but he has suffered in comparison to a number of his contemporaries—Romelu Lukaku, for example, has netted 27 in his first campaign at Manchester United, as well as assisting on nine occasions.

However, the Spaniard revealed to Marca's Jose Felix Diaz (h/t Goal's Joe Wright) that he has been playing with the aid of painkilling injections for much of the campaign due to a back injury, hampering his ability to contribute:

In light of the revelation, it is perhaps commendable the forward has been able to offer as much as he has.

The 25-year-old is a force to be reckoned with in the air, per OptaJoe:

After a difficult start to life at Stamford Bridge, it's not too surprising Morata would be open to returning to Juventus, where he won two Serie A and two Coppa Italia titles in a positive spell in Italy.

ESPN FC's Liam Twomey is confident he would do better in the Premier League next season if he stays, though:

Indeed, while he may not have set the world alight in his first year at the club, it has been a lacklustre campaign for almost all involved at Chelsea, and an injury-free season next year would give him a better opportunity to show what he can do.

If he's willing to remain for another year, it would make little sense to part with him at this stage.
