WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from April 30

Erik BeastonMay 1, 2018

The post-Superstar Shake-Up era of Raw is underway, and it was made abundantly clear Monday night that Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor figure prominently in WWE's plans for the flagship.

The Monster Among Men stole the spotlight from the anointed Roman Reigns and drew much louder, more positive reactions than The Big Dog.

Rollins and Balor tore the house down in a main event that continued to enhance the significance of the Intercontinental Championship.

Reigns struggled to follow up his loss to Brock Lesnar at the Greatest Royal Rumble with anything even remotely interesting to intrigue fans.

Ditto Baron Corbin, whose first rivalry on the Raw brand was revealed and did little to generate much in the way of hope that he will receive a significant push of any kind in the immediate future.

Winners: Finn Balor and Seth Rollins

WWE may try convincing you that  Reigns is the face of today's WWE, but a closer look at the way Raw has been structured for months now suggests the real faces of the flagship show are the two men who closed out the broadcast Monday night: Finn Balor and Seth Rollins.

The Kingslayer defeated Balor in a fantastic main event match, retaining his Intercontinental Championship on the same night the two teased increased tension during an in-ring promo earlier in the evening.

At a time when the Raw brand's upper echelon has been overtaken by hulking good guys overpowering overmatched villains, Rollins and Balor have brought a work rate to the show that WWE chairman Vince McMahon has smartly built around.

They have also picked up where The Miz left off, restoring credibility to an Intercontinental Championship that becomes more and more important the longer Brock Lesnar grasps on to the Universal Championship like his own personal Infinity Gauntlet.

Rollins and Balor have rewarded McMahon's trust, delivering superb in-ring performances and a compelling story centered on the Irishman's mounting frustration with his own inability to win the coveted title.

The result? Strong television at a time when the brand is still fleshing itself out after the Superstar Shake-Up.

Loser: Roman Reigns

Reigns may be the chosen one in WWE, but it became more and more apparent Monday that booking choices made over the last few months are negatively affecting him to the point that officials may have no choice but to re-evaluate his position.

As he waded through the thunderous boos that accompanied his promo on Raw, it sounded less like a guy staking his claim to another Universal Championship opportunity and more like a Superstar staring uncertainty in the face, suggesting he should be champion despite another loss.

That Jinder Mahal, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Strowman all had the fans in Montreal on their side in ways Reigns has not since his days with the original incarnation of The Shield does not help matters.

Rather than a Superstar riding a wave of momentum in the midst of a red-hot storyline that will culminate with a grand championship victory and the coronation of Reigns as the face of the organization, his involvement led to exhausted groans and questions of, "this crap again?"

That is hardly the response you want for a guy who is a damn good wrestler but has been betrayed by horrifically bad booking that may blow up a push which has been underway for the better part of three years.

Winner: Braun Strowman

The Monster Among Men built on his victory in the Greatest Royal Rumble by seizing the spotlight and obliterating anyone in his path. Unfortunately for Owens, Zayn and Mahal, they were in his path.

Strowman not only made the superhero save for Reigns and Bobby Lashley at the top of the show, he delivered the running powerslam to Owens that earned the trio a big victory in the night's Six-Man Tag Team match.

It was an interesting declaration by WWE Creative that may prove reflective of its opinions on whether Strowman has surpassed Reigns as the future of the company.

With every passing beatdown and every promise of a hated villain getting "these hands," Strowman's star grows exponentially.

Making the big save, drawing the big pop and winning matches for teams that include Reigns will only add to speculation Strowman is now the guy in the WWE Universe.

Loser: Baron Corbin

4 of 4

Remember when Baron Corbin's arrival on Raw was accompanied by video packages that put him over stronger than anything WWE Creative had done on SmackDown the last six months? Do you recall the momentum he appeared to have on his side as he debuted on the flagship, ready to ascend up a ladder he struggled to conquer on Tuesdays?

Monday night, he ignited a rivalry with Titus Worldwide, lost to No Way Jose and suddenly appears even colder than he was on SmackDown.

Say what you will about how fun Titus O'Neil, Apollo Crews and Dana Brooke may be as a trio, but they have been beaten down and rendered an irrelevant midcard act for so long that Corbin does not benefit whatsoever from engaging them and No Way Jose in any sort of rivalry.

It is a waste of time that halts any momentum he may have had after the Superstar Shake-Up and only stunts his growth as a potential main event attraction.
