Bayern Munich Reportedly Ready to Block Robert Lewandowski Real Madrid Transfer

Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to block any attempts made by Real Madrid to sign star forward Robert Lewandowski at the end of the campaign. 

According to Alberto Pinero of Goal, there's no amount of money Los Blancos could offer that would convince the German giants to sell their prime goalscorer in the summer. 

"Given their status as one of the biggest clubs in European football, Goal understands the Bavarians do not feel they can be forced into selling any player whom they want to keep hold of while also wanting to give incoming manager Niko Kovac the best possible chance of success," Pinero wrote.

It's added that Madrid believed the recent deal to take James Rodriguez to Munich may have helped negotiations for Lewandowski. However, it appears Bayern are not willing to let the Poland international go anywhere.

Madridistas will get a firsthand look at the 29-year-old in the coming weeks, as the two teams meet over two legs of the UEFA Champions League semi-final. The first leg will take place at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

It's no surprise, as the striker has been one of the most consistent and ruthless finishers in European football for a long time.

For Bayern and former club Borussia Dortmund, he's been a constant source of goals. Lewandowski finds space in the penalty area with such ease, while his ability with both feet and in the air means he takes so many different types of chances.

If Bayern are going to beat Madrid over two legs and make the final, then you feel as though Lewandowski will have to be at his red-hot best. As relayed by Real Madrid Info, in the buildup to the game the striker has been complimentary about Los Blancos:

Given his age and pedigree, if Real were to sign Lewandowski in the summer they would hope he could be a plug-in-and-play acquisition.

The European champions have been a little short at centre-forward this season. Cristiano Ronaldo can play the role, although he is more effective when he has a foil to work with. Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema have both struggled when tasked with doing the job this season.

As noted by ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan, it appears manager Zinedine Zidane still has faith in the latter despite his struggles:

Interest in Lewandowski makes sense as a result, although it would be a strange decision on Bayern's part to cash in on such an important member of their side.

Given there's a new manager arriving in the summer in Kovac, keeping experienced stars around for another season at least will be important in aiding any transition. While it may be tempting to cash in on Lewandowski given he turns 30 in August, finding someone to replicate his goalscoring output would be an unenviable task.
