Meanwhile Ciro Immobile joined Lionel Messi on 29 league goals as he netted a brace in Lazio's 4-0 win over Sampdoria in Serie A.

Rules: Every league in Europe has been given a difficulty rating between one and two by UEFA, which is multiplied by a player's goal tally to calculate their points total.

For example, goals scored in any of Europe's top five leagues are worth two points, whereas a goal in Portugal's Primeira Liga will only count for 1.5 points.

With Messi taking part in and winning the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla on Saturday with Barcelona, Salah has the opportunity to open up further breathing room between the pair and he grabbed it with both hands.

After Danny Ings put them ahead four minutes in, the Egyptian doubled Liverpool's lead midway through the second half when he latched on to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's pass and deftly chipped the ball over Ben Foster.

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker commented on Salah:

The PFA Player of the Year's effort was not enough to ensure his side a victory, though, as two late goals from West Brom saw them share the spoils.

Immobile looked as though he would not be getting on the scoresheet despite Lazio's comprehensive victory over Sampdoria until he notched two late goals in the space of three minutes.

The Italian converted Sergej Milinkovic-Savic's cross from close range before being slipped through by Nani and applying a fine finish one-on-one.

BeIN Sports' Matteo Bonetti put his goal tally in impressive context:

He'll have four more opportunities to add to his tally in Serie A this season, while Salah and Robert Lewandowski, who netted against Hannover on Saturday, have just three.

As for Messi, Barca still have five matches remaining in La Liga and are now free of their cup commitments.
