Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
"It was difficult letting him go, because he fit in really well here," manager Bob Melvin said of the move, per MLB.com's Jane Lee. "The guys liked him, the coaching staff loved him. We’d love to be able to keep him in the organization. If not, I hope he lands in a good place and gets to actually stick somewhere."
By going to the White Sox, Thompson heads back to where his MLB career began. Chicago selected him in the second round of the 2009 draft, and he came up through the White Sox's minor league system before making his MLB debut with the team in 2015.
The White Sox announced they traded Tyler Saladino to the Milwaukee Brewers to make room for Thompson on the roster.
Thompson has a .232/.307/.440 slash line over his career, and he'll provide much-needed outfield depth for Chicago.
