UFC Fight Night Barboza vs. Lee Odds: Betting Trends, Preview, Card Analysis
Two 155-pounders coming off losses to the top two fighters in the division will look to bounce back on Saturday when they meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night 128 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
In the featured lightweight matchup, Kevin Lee (16-3) is a -145 betting favorite (bet $145 to win $100) vs. Edson Barboza (19-5), who is listed as a +125 underdog (bet $100 to win $125) at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.
Barboza has fought more recently, dropping a lopsided unanimous decision to newly crowned lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 219 on December 30. The 32-year-old Brazilian went into that bout on a three-fight winning streak and likely would have received a title shot had he pulled off the upset of Nurmagomedov.
Prior to that at UFC 216 back on October 7, Lee suffered a third-round triangle-choke submission loss to Tony Ferguson for the interim UFC lightweight championship. The "Motown Phenom" saw his five-bout winning streak come to an end against Ferguson, who was scheduled to fight Nurmagomedov for the fourth time before bowing out with a knee injury.
Nurmagomedov proceeded to defeat Al Iaquinta for the title at UFC 223. Barboza also previously lost to Ferguson via D'Arce Choke on December 11, 2015.
In the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 128, a rematch between two top featherweight contenders will take place earlier between veterans Frankie Edgar (22-6-1) and Cub Swanson (25-8), who, like Lee and Barboza, have both lost to a common opponent as well in rising star Brian Ortega.
Edgar won the first meeting with Swanson on a neck-crank submission with four seconds remaining after dominating the five-round affair in the main event at UFC Fight Night 57 in Austin on November 22, 2014.
Oddsmakers have Edgar as a -230 favorite here despite being finished for the first time in his career by Ortega early last month at UFC 222. After he was originally scheduled to face Max Holloway for the 145-pound championship on that card, Edgar was knocked out by an uppercut in the first round to lose for just the second time in nine bouts.
Swanson is a +180 underdog and had his four-fight winning streak broken by Ortega too via second-round guillotine-choke submission at UFC Fight Night 123. Before winning four in a row, Swanson had suffered consecutive losses to Holloway and Edgar.
