Donovan Mitchell Beats Michael Jordan's Scoring Mark by G in 1st 2 Playoff Games
After just two games, Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell is already breaking Michael Jordan's playoff records.
The Louisville product posted 27 points and 10 rebounds in his playoff debut on Sunday, and he led his team to a 102-95 victory in Game 2 on Wednesday by dropping 28 points. According to ESPN, the 55 total points are a record for the most points ever for a guard in his first two playoff games:
Mitchell, who had 20 points in the second half of Game 2, explained his mindset.
"I need to keep applying pressure, getting to the rim," Mitchell said, per ESPN's Royce Young. "Even if I miss, as you saw on the boards, they were right there crashing and getting rebounds. Just being aggressive, getting to the rim, getting to the free throw line. I didn't have a free throw until the second half, so 'just continue to be aggressive' was my mindset."
But even after entering the record books, the 21-year-old Rookie of the Year candidate was focused on the team:
Mitchell has a long way to go to catch Jordan's six rings—but this is a start.
