Russell Westbrook: Brian Davis' Comment Isn't OK, but It's Time to Move On

Alec NathanApr 14, 2018

Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook told reporters Saturday that while he was disappointed by play-by-play announcer Brian Davis' word choice during a broadcast of the team's 137-123 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, he believes it's time to leave it in the past.

"Brian has been here for a while. What he said wasn’t OK," Westbrook said, according to the Oklahoman's Erik Horne

"But he definitely came in and talk[ed] to us. The team has made the decision to do what they need to do. We just have to move on from it."

During Wednesday's broadcast on Fox Sports Oklahoma, Davis said Westbrook was out of his "cotton-picking mind."

On Friday, the Thunder suspended Davis for Game 1 of their first-round series against the Utah Jazz

"It is with great remorse and humility that I accept this suspension for the insensitive words I used during Wednesday's broadcast," Davis said in a statement to ESPN.com's Royce Young"While unintentional, I understand and acknowledge the gravity of the situation. I offer my sincere apology and realize that, while I committed a lapse in judgment, such mistakes come with consequences. This is an appropriate consequence for my actions."

The Thunder and Jazz will open their Western Conference quarterfinals series Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
