Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Running Real-Life 'Fight Club' in Classroom

A substitute teacher at Montville High School in Connecticut has been charged with four counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and second-degree breach of peace for allegedly running a real-life "Fight Club" in his classroom.

As first reported by Joseph Wenzel IV and Courtney Zieller of WFSB (h/t Bloody Elbow's Tim Bissell), 23-year-old Ryan Fish encouraged students to fight in October 2017.

Footage of the fights was recorded on student's cell phones and shared on social media. Video showed students slapping and punching one another in the face during these classroom fights. The Montville Police Department began the investigation in December. Four victims, between the ages of 14 and 16, discussed the "Fight Club" with the police.

In one alleged fight, per the arrest warrant, Fish began the action by saying, "One, two, three." The fight was halted when one of the victims began vomiting. Fish attempted to restart the fight by saying "Round 2," but the school bell rang.

One victim also told police that Fish discussed his drug use with the class and allowed students to drw lewd pictures on the whiteboard.

Fish said, according to the arrest warrant, "The truth is I'm an idiot and wanted to befriend them." Fish told police, "I would let them be teenagers and let them get their energy out."

Fish was fired in October. He was arraigned on April 12 and released on $75,000 bond.
