Masters Cut Line 2018: Full List of Players Removed from 1st Major

Alec NathanApr 6, 2018

The cut line at the 2018 Masters settled at five over par, which left a handful of notable names on the outside looking in entering moving day.

Sergio Garcia, the defending Masters champion, headlined that group as he stumbled his way to a 15-over par finish that was precipitated by an implosion on the par-five 15th in Round 1.

Elsewhere, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson skirted by and finished just inside the cut line at four and five over, respectively.

By missing the cut, Garcia became the 10th defending champion in Masters history to fail to qualify for the weekend. England's Danny Willett became the ninth member of that club a year ago.

The only golfers who finished with higher scores than Garcia through 36 holes were amateurs Matt Parziale and Harry Ellis as the Spaniard missed his first cut at Augusta since 2014.

Woods could have joined Garcia on an early flight home had he let his nerves get the best of him after moving to five over with a bogey on No. 12. However, the 14-time major champion poured in birdies on Nos. 13 and 15 to avoid missing his first cut at the Masters since turning pro.

The only time Woods has landed outside the cut line at Augusta was in 1996 as an amateur.

However, Woods still has a ways to go if he wants to beat the streaks that were extended Friday by Fred Couples (two over) and Bernhard Langer (four over), as Golf Digest's Mike O'Malley noted:

Those two will safely make their way through to Rounds 3 and 4, but they'll sit well behind a group of front-runners that include Patrick Reed and Marc Leishman.
