Masters 2018 Leaderboard: Latest Scores and Standings From Friday at Augusta

Joe TanseyApr 6, 2018

An under-par second round is hard to find at the 2018 Masters, as the course and conditions at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia are causing all sorts of trouble.

Of the 13 players under par for Friday's round, two of them have played more than nine holes, which means there is a possibility that number could drop as the afternoon continues.

Jordan Spieth, Tony Finau and Phil Mickelson experienced the most hardships among Thursday's leaders, as each has given back at least three shots to the field.

As the afternoon threesomes featuring Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia get going, we could see more gaudy scores on the leaderboard or that golfers could learn from the failures of the morning groups and succeed with a conservative game plan.

Live updates of Friday's second round can be found in Bleacher Report's live blog.

Kuchar Putting Together Rare Round of Consistency

While Augusta National provided problems for most of the leaders, Kuchar has been a model of consistency at the top of the leaderboard.

After posting a first-round 68, Kuchar teed off Friday morning alongside Rickie Fowler and Phil Mickelson, with Spieth in his sights.

While both of his playing partners and plenty of other first-round leaders experienced trouble, Kuchar remained consistent with nine pars and one bogey.

Although an over-par round isn't an ideal score for anyone participating in a major, it is holding up because of the brutal conditions on the course.

Kuchar, who tied for fourth at the Masters a year ago, could separate himself from the other players at the top of the standings, as he reaches the stretch of the back nine, where he recorded four birdies Thursday.

Although he won't shoot four-under on the back nine, the 39-year-old Georgia native could use a birdie or two to create an insurmountable advantage by Friday's standards.

Garcia Has Opportunity to Make Cut Despite 1st-Round Struggles

Sergio Garcia was a part of one of Thursday's top headlines for all the wrong reasons, as he carded a 13 on the 15th hole.

As unlikely as it sounded at the conclusion of the first round, the defending champion has an opportunity to make the cut.

Garcia began his second round just two shots back of the projected cut line, and it is safe to bet he won't shoot another 81 Friday.

With a collection of players directly above him in the leaderboard struggling to cope with the conditions, all Garcia needs is a round close to par to keep himself in contention for the weekend.

The Spaniard might not be in the ideal position entering the third and fourth rounds if he makes the cut, but it beats waiting around for two days before handing off the green jacket to the 2018 champion.
