Manchester City's Manuel Estiarte Posts Video from Inside Bus During Attack

Manchester City coaching staff member Manuel Estiarte has posted a video to social media of the attack on the team bus at Anfield on Wednesday, with footage showing missiles being thrown by a section of Liverpool fans.

Estiarte filmed from inside the coach as the City squad made their way to the stadium prior to the Champions League quarter-final first leg, which Liverpool won 3-0. He wrote "No words. Unacceptable." under the video he posted late on Wednesday night:

Merseyside Police diverted the coach's journey due to building works and for safety reasons, per the BBC. Liverpool fans flanked the new route, with some pelting the bus with cans, bottles and flares.

The police are "conducting enquiries to identify those responsible," per the Press Association (via ESPN FC), and there could yet be disciplinary action by UEFA against Liverpool.

Speaking after the match, Pep Guardiola condemned the attack, saying that officials "knew it was going to happen" and should have done more.

"The bus is destroyed but I did not expect a prestigious club like Liverpool doing this kind of thing," he said. "It is not Liverpool, it is the people, maybe one, two or three, but hopefully it does not happen again."

Liverpool, meanwhile, released a statement on the club website apologising to their opponents.

"We apologise unreservedly to Pep Guardiola, his players, staff and officials," it read. "The priority now is to establish the facts and offer Manchester City whatever support is necessary."

The attack somewhat marred the commanding lead taken by Liverpool ahead of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium on April 10. There will be concerns over retaliation ahead of that game, although the Press Association report noted there are no special plans in place as of yet.
