WWE WrestleMania 2018: John Cena vs. Undertaker and Matches with Bust Potential

Graham GSM MatthewsApr 6, 2018

WWE WrestleMania 34 is stacked with more star power than any other installment in recent memory, boasting more matches than what is usually expected from the extravaganza. That said, it's rare every one of them goes off without a hitch.

No matter how well a bout is built up in the weeks preceding the pay-per-view, there is always the chance it can fall flat with fans. Look no further than Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 33, which was far from what it should have been considering how prominently it was positioned on the card.

A number of matchups at Sunday's WrestleMania could go either way, but these are the top three with the biggest bust potential.

John Cena vs. The Undertaker

Regardless of how excited fans may be for the yet-to-be-confirmed contest between John Cena and The Undertaker at WrestleMania 34, it's safe to safe that marquee match should have been held at least five or six years ago.

Taker is a shell of his former self in the ring, and it's unknown how he will be able to perform at the age of 53.

After all, Undertaker's most recent WrestleMania match, against Roman Reigns in last year, was subpar and failed to live up to fans' lofty expectations. It was evident it was time for The Phenom to hang up the boots because he was no longer the Undertaker of old and couldn't deliver at a high level.

Either way, WWE.com's preview of the likely match would seem to suggest it's happening. Regardless of how it comes to fruition, members of the WWE Universe shouldn't get their hopes up for an instant classic.

You can count on Cena and Undertaker to deliver a memorable WrestleMania moment, but as a contest, it won't be anything special. Unfortunately, WWE failed to pull the trigger on the dream match when it could have been a blockbuster years back.

Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax

To WWE's credit, the Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax storyline has been simmering for close to a year. Whenever it looked like they would do battle one-on-one, Bliss always found a way to escape with her title reign intact and keep Jax at bay.

Jax finally broke off on her own once she realized Bliss had been manipulating her this entire time, becoming a babyface in the process. Fans have been anxious to see Jax tear Bliss limb from limb in recent weeks, but their WrestleMania match won't be much more than a glorified squash.

Jax is the betting favorite to emerge victorious Sunday, according to OddsShark. While the outcome of the Raw Women's Championship clash is hardly in doubt, Bliss and Jax have yet to show they have any chemistry as opponents and could produce a quality contest together.

Compared to every other match on the 'Mania card, Bliss vs. Jax isn't as much of a priority and therefore could have its time cut. Jax capturing the championship would elicit a positive response from the audience, but Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka will outshine them from an in-ring standpoint.

Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon

There is a ton of buzz surrounding Ronda Rousey's wrestling debut at WrestleMania 34, and understandably so. She is one of the most famous female athletes in the world, and thus the pressure on her to succeed in the squared circle is intensified.

She has gotten physical on only a handful of occasions since her arrival in WWE. Despite that, Rousey's progress has largely been kept quiet, and it doesn't help that Stephanie McMahon isn't a full-time competitor herself.

On the bright side, she will have a multi-time world champion in Kurt Angle as her partner against The Authority, so she can at least be carried to a passable match. It isn't guaranteed to be great, though, so fans should have their guard up for a less-than-stellar bout.

Rousey told WWE.com during an in-depth interview that "the training has been grueling instead of intense" (h/t Joshua Gagnon of Wrestling Inc), so if nothing else, she is taking this upcoming challenge seriously. Nevertheless, don't be surprised to see this match miss the mark and underwhelm.
